Fixtures
Matches are played on a Saturday at a neutral venue. As a member of the club we expect people to commit to as many matches as possible, although we know it is difficult to be available for all matches! If you are unable to play a match please write in against the relevant fixture in the club diary as soon as possible. This allows us to play teams as far in advance as possible.
First Team fixtures are played at UWE, Filton Campus, Coldharbour Lane, BS16 1QY (indoors).
Second Team fixtures are played at City Academy, Russell Town Avenue, Redfield, BS5 9JH (indoors).
Third Team fixtures are played at Bradley Stoke Community School, Fiddlers Wood Lane, Bradley Stoke, BS32 9BS (outdoors).
Fourth Team fixtures are played at Abbeywood Community School, New School, Stoke Gifford, BS34 8SF (outdoors).
Umpiring
For every match we are expected to find and provide an umpire. We do have a few of umpires in the club, however we often rely on other clubs to help us out. If you are interested in becoming an umpire, or increasing the qualification you already have, please let it be known so we can contact the Umpiring Secretary of Avon to see when courses are happening.
Scoring
For every match there is a member from two different teams that score and time for the umpires. It is an easy job, and if you have never done it before we can teach you how to do it. Depending on the size of the squad you will be expected to score on average 3 matches throughout the season. (This is the match before or after the match you are due to play). This is unfortunately not negotiable. If you struggle to get to matches, childcare issues etc you can sign up for your scoring as early as you wish by putting your name against the date in the club diary. If you cannot fulfil your club scoring duties it is your responsibility to find someone to cover them for you.
No scorer = no match = the club is fined and points deducted
Squad roles
Even as a new member to the club we need everyone to be involved and take on a role. This can be anything from the captain to collecting match fees:
-
Captain: organises the team at training and matches, they are the first point of call if any problems and decide team positioning.
-
Vice Captain: assist the Captain and ensure a scorer is available each week.
-
Match fee collector: at every match it will be your job to collect match fees and pay the umpire.
-
Results contact: you will be required to text the match score if won or drawn and send in a players sheet to the division secretary
-
Warm-up lead: organise the warmup on match days, get us ready for court time!
-
Team Socials/Catch Up: organise catchups and build team cohesion off court
-
Friendlies: coordinate friendly fixtures throughout the season.
-
Ball and Bibs: you will be required to bring these to each training session and matches.
-
Primary Carer: you need to be responsible for bringing the first aid kit to each match and training. Ideally at least one person at each match has a level of first aid training.
-
Match Report: you will share your team's results with the rest of the club via our club Spond so we can all enjoy our successes!
